Roadrunners to enter this week's Conference USA Tournament as No. 8 seed
SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will be the eighth seed at this week’s Conference USA Tournament, which begins on Wednesday and runs through Sunday at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center in Norfolk, Va.
The Roadrunners (11-10) received a first-round bye when the bracket was announced by the league on Monday and they are scheduled to face No. 9 seed Middle Tennessee (11-9), which downed 16th-seeded Florida Atlantic by a score of 4-1 in Wednesday's first round, at 1 p.m. (CT) on Thursday.
UTSA is led by Miriam Rosell Canudas, who has won 12 of her last 13 contests at the No. 2 singles position en route to a team-leading 17-4 record this spring. Meanwhile, Isabelle Jonsson and Jacobea Junger each have won a dozen tilts this season and Irene Gandara Gonzalez also is in double figures with 10 triumphs.
Junger and Rosell Canudas make up the Roadrunners' top doubles tandem with a dozen victories at the top spot in the lineup.
The Blue Raiders were swept by No. 31 Tennessee in Sunday's regular season finale, but they now have won five of their last seven outings after Wednesday's victory.
