Roadrunners to host I-35 rival on Monday afternoon
SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will return to the courts for the first time in 15 days on Monday when it hosts I-35 rival Texas State at 1 p.m. at the UTSA Tennis Center.
The Roadrunners (8-7) finished off a perfect week with a 4-1 victory at Texas-Pan American two Sundays ago and they now have won three consecutive matches, which has put them over the .500 mark for the first time this season.
Freshman Miriam Rosell Canudas continued her exceptional opening campaign after picking up her seventh consecutive singles win against the Broncs. She is the team leader with 12 and the Barcelona, Spain, native also has paired with Jacobea Junger for a 10-1 mark in doubles action, including nine straight triumphs.
Meanwhile, Texas State (8-6) snapped a five-match losing streak on Tuesday with its sixth home victory in a row in a 4-3 victory against Arkansas State. Jessica Kahts leads the squad with a 10-4 singles record this spring and she has teamed up with Ana Laura Gutierrez to win four straight matches in doubles play. They are 8-4 this spring, while Katy Collins and Eva Dench also have won eight contests for the Bobcats.
Texas State defeated the Roadrunners by a score of 5-2 in the last meeting between the two clubs back on Feb. 15, 2013.
