SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will begin its fall season this weekend at the Wildcats Invitational. The three-day event will begin at 11 a.m. (CT) on Friday at El Conquistador Golf and Tennis Resort.
The tournament will feature players from Arizona, Cal State Northridge, Iowa State, New Mexico State, Northern Arizona and UTEP in addition to the Roadrunners.
The multiple-bracket event will feature both singles and doubles play. All the action begins on Friday with one round of doubles play, followed by two rounds of singles competition. Saturday will include two rounds of singles and one round of doubles and Sunday will determine the championship with one round of singles and one round of doubles.
UTSA welcomes back seven veterans from last year's team.
The Roadrunners are bolstered by the return of Jacobea Junger, a sophomore that tied for the team lead with 10 wins in singles play last season, and senior Isabelle Jonsson, a Southland Conference and Western Athletic Conference All-Academic honoree who also led the team with 10 singles victories in 2013.
Eighth-year head coach Erin Scott will introduce a trio of newcomers to the squad. Nicole Karaklis is a sophomore transfer from Incarnate Word and Lina Hallgreen (Sweden) and Miriam Rosell Canudas (Spain) are true freshmen.
