SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will begin its fall season at the Longhorns Invitational this weekend. The three-day event begins at 8:30 a.m. on Friday at the Penick-Allison Tennis Center in Austin.
The tournament will feature 64 players from Denver, Houston, LSU, North Texas, Oklahoma, Rice, SMU, TCU, Texas, Tulane, UTSA and West Virginia.
The Roadrunners enter the fall campaign after advancing to the Southland Conference Tournament last spring. UTSA welcomes back six letterwinners from a year ago, including junior Isabelle Jonsson, who was a second-team All-Southland honoree at No. 2 singles.
Seventh-year head coach Erin Scott also will introduce four newcomers to the squad — sophomore Daniela Garcia-Diaz (Cali, Colombia/Wayne State) and freshmen Jacobea Junger (Stuttgart, Germany/Friedrich-Eugens-Gymnasium), Miranda Poile (Melbourne, Australia/Blessed Hope Christian [Texas] Academy) and Alena Schichkova (Quito, Ecuador/Colegio Centebad).
