SAN ANTONIO — Junior Ryan Dalton hit a three-run homer in the first inning and scored again in the eighth to lead UTSA to a series-clinching 8-4 victory against New Mexico on Sunday afternoon at Roadrunner Field.

Dalton finished the contest 1-for-3 with three RBIs, while sophomore Riley Good went 3-for-3 with three runs scored.

UTSA (5-3) received four scoreless innings from three relievers to hold off the Lobos (2-5).

Junior Garrett Staudt hurled a pair of frames, giving up only a hit and one walk while also striking out a batter. Meanwhile, freshman Jordan Pacheco allowed a single and walk with one punchout in the eighth inning and sophomore Matt Sims retired New Mexico in order with a strikeout in the ninth.

Sophomore starter Michael Kraft (1-1) scattered six hits, walked two and allowed four runs over five innings of work. The San Antonio native also struck out a game-high five batters.

The Birds struck first with a four-run outburst in the opening inning, highlighted by Dalton's first home run of the season and the 28th of his career.

The Lobos picked up a run in the second on Josh Melendez's solo homer.

UTSA pushed the lead to 5-1 in the third when Good, who singled to lead off the panel, scored on sophomore Mike Warren's RBI groundout.

New Mexico pulled closer two frames later after Kyle Stiner's run-scoring single and Ben Woodchick's steal of home on a pickoff attempt by Kraft to first base.

The Roadrunners got a run back the next stanza on junior Daniel Rockett's RBI single.

The Lobos capped their scoring in the sixth on Erik Suarez's single to left and UTSA put the game out of reach in the eighth with a pair of tallies.

Selby Brummett (0-1) yielded five runs on seven hits over three innings of work.

The Roadrunners will return to action at 3 p.m. on Tuesday in a non-conference contest at Dallas Baptist (3-4).
