Roadrunners, Texas State to continue I-35 rivalry on Tuesday night
SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will conclude a four-game home stand on Tuesday night when it hosts I-35 rival Texas State at 6 p.m..
The Roadrunners (24-12) have won five of their last seven contests since dropping a 7-6 decision to the Bobcats (19-16) two weeks ago in San Marcos. Texas State leads the all-time series, 52-29.
UTSA had its four-game winning streak snapped on Sunday against Marshall by a score of 5-2.
The Birds' three-win week was highlighted by Tony Ramirez, who led UTSA with team highs in batting average (.538), hits (7), RBIs (6), total bases (11), slugging percentage (.846) and on-base percentage (.647). The senior from Ferndale, Mich., hit his third home run of the season in Friday’s series-opening 6-2 victory against the Thundering Herd and posted two RBIs three consecutive contest (at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and first two games of Marshall series).
The Roadrunners offense, which ranks second in Conference USA, has five different hitters with at least 10 multi-hit games. Horacio Correa III tops the list with 16, while RJ Perucki (15), Mike Warren (14), John Welborn (14), and Jesse Baker (13) slot in behind the junior shortstop. That total could increase this week, as Ramirez and John Bormann each have nine this spring.
Meanwhile, Texas State comes to the Alamo City having lost four of its past five outings, including a Sun Belt Conference series defeat at Louisiana-Monroe over the weekend.
