Roadrunners to take on Texas-Pan American on Tuesday night
SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will return to action and kick off a four-game road trip on Tuesday at Texas-Pan American. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Edinburg Stadium.
The Roadrunners (21-18) took two of three games from Sacramento State in Western Athletic Conference action last weekend. UTSA posted bookend victories to clinch the set with the Hornets. Daniel Rockett's three-run homer with two outs in the eighth inning gave the Birds an 8-5 victory in Sunday's finale.
Rockett leads the league with a .673 slugging percentage and ranks second with a .389 batting average.
Meanwhile, the Roadrunners boast the circuit's top hitting club with a .313 batting average and 422 hits.
Horacio Correa III, who is hitting .314, takes a career-best 13-game hitting streak into the midweek contest, while Riley Good is hitting .467 with two doubles in his last five games.
Right-hander Wesley Cox (2-1, 5.46 ERA) will make his first career start on the mound for UTSA. The Rockwall native has appeared out of the bullpen in 19 games and logged 28 innings and a save this season.
The Broncs (19-17) have won eight of their last 10 games, including three of four last weekend at Houston Baptist.
Alex Howe leads Texas-Pan American at the plate with a .314 batting average and 24 RBIs, while Alberto Morales has posted team highs with nine doubles and two home runs.
Right-hander Matt Daniels (0-3, 9.00 ERA) is expected to make his fifth start of the season for the Broncs. Daniels has issued 20 walks and struck out 14 in 18 innings of work this spring.
Tuesday marks the 82nd matchup between the two clubs, making it the most-played series in UTSA history. The Roadrunners hold a 51-30 advantage in the series and have won nine out of the last 10 meetings, including a 7-1 decision on Feb. 26 at Roadrunner Field. UTSA also has won the last three contests played in Edinburg, including a 7-3 victory last April 10.
