UTSA to host Baylor on Tuesday night at Wolff Stadium
SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will continue its seven-game home stand on Tuesday night when it hosts Baylor at Wolff Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
The Roadrunners (14-10), who have dropped five of their last seven contests, are coming off a Western Athletic Conference (WAC) series loss against UT Arlington last weekend at Roadrunner Field. UTSA took the opening tilt, but the Mavericks won the final two.
RJ Perucki and Mike Warren are tied for the team lead with a .357 batting average, while Perucki also holds team highs with six home runs and 25 RBIs. As a team, the Birds are leading the WAC with a .319 batting average and average nearly seven runs a game.
Left-hander Nolan Trabanino will start on the mound for UTSA. The Friendswood native has made four starts this season and is 3-2 with a 4.26 ERA and 20 strikeouts in 25.1 innings.
The Bears (11-13) enter the mid-week contest having lost three of their last five outings. Last weekend, Baylor and Oklahoma State split a pair of Big 12 Conference contests in Stillwater, Okla., but the rubber game was canceled due to weather.
Nathan Orf leads the Bears at the plate with a .368 batting average, while Cal Towey is hitting .281 with a homer and a team-high 20 RBIs. Logan Brown also has stolen a team-best 11 bases.
Tuesday marks the 35th all-time meeting between the two teams with the Bears holding a commanding 29-5 advantage in the series. The two clubs have split the last two matchups, including the Roadrunners' 4-1 victory over then-No. 1 Baylor in the first meeting last season at the Wolff. The Bears rebounded to knock off UTSA, 14-3, in Waco three weeks later.
