SAN ANTONIO — Junior third baseman Ryan Dalton agreed to terms with the Los Angeles Angels on Friday and he will be assigned to a Rookie-level club later this week. The Sugar Land native already has reported to the Angels' spring training facility in Tempe, Ariz.

Dalton, who was the 23rd player in the program's 21-year history to be drafted, was selected by the American League club in the 18th round of the 2012 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft last Wednesday.

The 6-foot-1, 205-pounder earned All-Southland Conference honors in his final two campaigns with the Roadrunners. He led the Birds with a .307 batting average, 11 doubles, nine home runs and 42 RBIs this season. He also paced the squad with a .495 slugging percentage and a dozen multiple RBI contests.

Dalton, who was a consensus Freshman All-American and Southland Freshman of the Year in 2010, ended his collegiate career ranked fifth in school annals with 36 home runs and 142 RBIs. He also holds program frosh records with 17 round-trippers and 51 RBIs, while his 324 total bases translated to a career .531 slugging percentage.
