FRISCO — Senior Kevin Clarke and junior Casey Selsor earned second-team Southland Conference All-Academic honors, the league office announced on Monday.
Clarke, a first-team selection a year ago, graduated this spring with a 3.79 GPA in management. The right-handed pitcher tied for the team lead with four saves this past season and posted a 3-5 record to go along with a 4.01 ERA. He hurled 42.2 innings and notched a bullpen-best 50 strikeouts, while limiting opponents to a .238 batting average. The Huntsville native finished his career with 10 saves, the third-highest mark in program history. Clarke will be to be named to the Southland Commissioner's Honor Roll for the fifth time later this month.
Selsor earned his first postseason all-academic award while carrying a 3.33 GPA in business. The left-hander garnered honorable mention All-Southland honors a month ago after posting a 5-5 record on the mound with a team-best 2.90 ERA and 79 strikeouts. At the plate, he batted .293 with 12 doubles, a triple, two home runs and 17 RBIs. His versatility landed him on the John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award watch list in May. Selsor is currently playing summer ball for the Thunder Bay Border Cats in the Northwoods League.
The pair of all-academic selections push 11th-year head coach Sherman Corbett's total to 14.
The all-academic teams are voted on by the head coaches, sports information directors and academic advisors from each Southland university. Student-athletes must possess a 3.0 cumulative GPA, have completed one full academic year at the nominating institution and participated in at least 50 percent of the team's competition.
