FRISCO — Sophomore Matt Sims earned second-team Southland Conference All-Academic honors, the league office announced on Wednesday.
Sims, who boasts a 3.80 GPA in accounting, led the Roadrunners with seven saves this past season. The Cypress native appeared in 22 games out of the bullpen and posted a 4.91 ERA with 32 strikeouts in 25.2 innings of work.
The 6-foot-4, 195-pound right-hander closed out UTSA's 4-1 victory against then-No. 1 Baylor on April 24 with a scoreless frame. Less than three weeks later, he and classmate Michael Kraft combined on a two-hit shutout at Texas State.
The Southland All-Academic teams are voted on by the head coaches, sports information directors and academic advisors from each league institution. Student-athletes must possess a 3.0 cumulative GPA, have completed one full academic year at the nominating university and participated in at least 50 percent of the team's competition.
