SAN ANTONIO — UTSA saw its four-game winning streak come to an end on Sunday when Marshall picked up a 5-2 victory in this weekend's series finale at Roadrunner Field.

UTSA (24-12, 10-5 C-USA) was undone by four fielding errors that accounted for three unearned runs, while seven Marshall pitchers kept the Roadrunners off-balance throughout the contest.

Following an error by C.J. Pickering at second base, the Thundering Herd (14-20, 8-9 C-USA) scored the first run of the game on a single into left center by Corey Bird.

UTSA added an unearned run of its own in the bottom half of the inning. John Welborn advanced from first to third on an attempted pickoff throw from pitcher Lance Elder and RJ Perucki followed with a single to center to even the game at one apiece.

A pair of Roadrunners errors in the fifth allowed two more unearned runs to score and that pushed the advantage to 3-1. Roberto Fajardo scored the first run on an error by Perucki at third and Sergio Leon scored a batter later on shortstop Horacio Correa III's errant throw.

Fajardo added a two-out RBI single to left in the sixth to extend the Marshall lead to three and, an inning later, the Thundering Herd tacked on another run on single by Chase Vogelbach.

Perucki atoned for his defensive miscue in the eighth with a solo home run to left, which cut the Marshall lead to 5-2. It was the second consecutive game the senior homered and he finished the game 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored.

Ryan Hopkins entered from the bullpen in the ninth to retire the Roadrunners in order for his third save of the season.

UTSA will conclude its four-game home stand Tuesday night when it takes on I-35 rival Texas State (19-16) at 6 p.m.
