SEATTLE, Wash. — Junior McKenzie racked up 23 digs and 20 kills and UTSA defeated Seattle in four sets (25-20, 23-25, 30-28, 25-23) on Thursday night at the Connolly Center.

The Roadrunners (10-4, 3-1 WAC) held the Redhawks (6-9, 1-4 WAC) to a .136 hitting percentage en route to their fourth consecutive victory.

Adams, who recorded her ninth double-double of the season, was joined in double figures by senior Whitney Walls, who netted 13 winners. Meanwhile, junior Brandy Huskey dished out 48 assists and freshman Annie Kunes collected 22 digs. Junior Paige Hamilton and sophomore Dempsey Thornton aided the defensive effort with 15 and 13 stops, respectively.

Kaytlyn Dill posted a match-high 22 kills, while Lanie Beadle pulled in 20 digs for Seattle.

The Roadrunners relied upon their defense to open an early lead in the contest. UTSA collected 28 digs and limited the Redhawks to a .115 hitting percentage, while Adams led the offensive charge with seven winners.

Freshman Jordan Kotara broke an 8-8 tie with a service ace that put UTSA ahead for good. The Roadrunners increased their advantage to 22-18 before Seattle racked up back-to-back points to pull within two. However, UTSA finished off the frame with three consecutive kills, including a pair from Adams.

The Roadrunners raced out to a 7-3 lead in the second set, but the Redhawks rallied with a 5-1 run to tie the panel. The two teams split the next 12 points before the Birds surrendered back-to-back tallies. Seattle kept the momentum and pushed out to a four-point advantage. UTSA pulled to within one (24-23), but Dill tied up the match with a winner that was assisted by Jacquie Brice.

The Roadrunners fell behind early in the third stanza, but they rallied late to take control of the match.

The Redhawks opened up an 8-3 lead, but a 6-1 spurt by the Birds, including back-to-back aces from Kunes, tied the set at nine. The frame stayed even until Seattle claimed a 19-15 lead. However, UTSA battled back with four straight tallies to pull even again. The two teams split the next 18 points before the Redhawks posted back-to-back attack errors to end the frame.

The Birds opened up a 13-7 lead to start the fourth and deciding set before Seattle reeled off a 15-6 run to take a three-point lead. However, UTSA responded with back-to-back tallies, including a winner by senior Brittney Malloy. After the two clubs traded the next two points, Adams hammered home a winner and the Roadrunners clinched the contest on a Dill attack error.

The Roadrunners continue their Pacific Northwest road trip on Saturday when they take on Idaho (5-10, 3-2 WAC) at 9 p.m. (CT).
