SAN ANTONIO — Ben Hernandez's RBI single with two down in the eighth propelled Southeastern Louisiana to a 4-2 victory at UTSA on Sunday afternoon at the Bird Bath.
The Roadrunners (17-23, 7-14 SLC) held a 2-1 lead in the fifth before the Lions (28-13, 13-8 SLC) tied the contest on Harry Slade's run-scoring base hit through the right side of the infield.
Sam Roberson started the decisive frame with a one-out, pinch-hit single to right. Freshman right-hander Logan Onda then induced a Brett Hoffman ground out before being replaced by sophomore righty Matt Sims. Hernandez fell behind in the count, 1-2, before his grounder made its way into center field, which allowed Roberson to score from second base.
Southeastern Louisiana tacked on an insurance run in one panel later when Cody Gougler lined an RBI double off the wall in left with two down.
Right-hander Stefan Lopez then pitched a perfect ninth for his 14th save this season (second NCAA), while Dylan Hills (6-2) earned the win after tossing three scoreless innings of relief.
Gougler led the Lions' 13-hit attack with three knocks and three RBIs.
Onda (0-2) gave up a run on two hits in his 1.2 stanzas.
Selsor was 2-for-4, including a double and the third-inning
three-bagger, while sophomore RJ Perucki also had a pair of hits.
Southeastern Louisiana took an early 1-0 lead in the second when Gougler drove a 1-0 fastball from freshman starter Justin Anderson over the wall in right for his third home run of the year.
The Birds answered an inning later with a pair of tallies thanks to senior Casey Selsor's RBI triple and senior Matthew James' run-scoring single.
However, UTSA did not score the rest of the way.
The Roadrunners will conclude their season-long eight-game home stand on Tuesday night when they host No. 3 Baylor (35-7) at Wolff Stadium. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m. and the Bears will come into the contest riding the nation's longest winning streak at 24 games.
