SAN ANTONIO — Senior Casey Selsor and sophomore John Welborn hit their first home runs of the season and UTSA posted an 8-5 victory against UT Arlington on Saturday at Roadrunner Field.

Selsor lead off the game with a solo shot, while Welborn hit a two-run blast that highlighted a four-run fourth inning and that proved to be the difference for the Roadrunners (15-20, 6-11 SLC).

UTSA built a 6-1 advantage through four panels before the Mavericks (22-14, 9-8 SLC) scored four times in the fifth to pull within a run.

However, the Birds plated two more in the bottom half of the inning and the bullpen hurled four scoreless stanzas to hold the lead.

Sophomore Michael Kraft (6-3) left with a one-run lead in the sixth after surrendering five runs (three earned) on eight hits to go along with four strikeouts in five innings.

Freshman Logan Onda struck out five in three scoreless frames and sophomore Matt Sims registered his fifth save of the season with a 1-2-3 ninth that included a pair of punchouts.

Selsor led UTSA's 11-hit attack with a 3-for-4 performance that included his 14th career round-tripper in addition to scoring twice.

UT Arlington starter Collin Reynolds (3-1) gave up a half dozen runs (five earned) on seven hits and over his four innings of work.

The rubber game of the series will be played at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
