UTSA finishes off weekend sweep with 14-10 comeback victory on Sunday

SAN ANTONIO — UTSA hit a season-high four home runs, erased an 8-0 deficit and complete a weekend sweep of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi with a 14-10 victory on Sunday at Roadrunner Field.

The Birds (11-18, 4-8 SLC), winners of four consecutive games, began their comeback with a six-run fourth inning. A frame later, UTSA tied the Islanders (20-11, 6-6 SLC) and eventually took the lead on freshman Riley Good's two-run homer to right center.

The Roadrunners made it 11 unanswered runs in the sixth when sophomore Ryan Dalton swatted a solo home run to left.

After the Islanders plated a pair in the seventh, UTSA put the game out of reach with a three-run eighth, which included a solo round-tripper off the bat of junior Matthew James and a two-run shot from Dalton.

Junior Cody Scott (2-4) picked up the win after logging 4.2 innings out of the bullpen. He allowed two runs, scattered five hits, walked a pair and fanned four.

Brett Carnline (5-2) was saddled with the loss after giving up three runs on four hits in just two-thirds of an inning.

UTSA touched up five Texas A&M-Corpus Christi pitchers to the tune of 17 hits in the series finale. Sophomore Jake Wood was 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and four RBIs, while Good went 3-for-5 with a homer and he also drove in three runs. Five other Roadrunners registered two hits, including Dalton who launched two home runs that accounted for three RBIs.

The Islanders took a 1-0 lead in the opening panel and extended their lead to six by scoring five times in the following inning The visitors tacked on single runs in both the third and fourth before the UTSA rally began.

The Roadrunners will return to action on Tuesday in a 3 p.m. doubleheader against Texas Tech (17-11) in San Angelo.
