Roadrunners in fifth place after first round of Dallas Athletic Club/SMU Invitational
DALLAS — Led by a 74 from Libby Thomas, the UTSA women's golf team is in a tie for fifth place after the first round of the Dallas Athletic Club/SMU Invitational, which began on Friday at the Dallas Athletic Club (par 72/6,257 yards).
Thomas matched her season best with the two-over-par 74 and the freshman from Midland is in a tie for 10th place, three shots off the pace of 71 set by Yupaporn Kawinpakorn of Kansas.
The Roadrunners received 75s from Fabiola Arriaga and Taylor Newlin, who are tied for 12th in the individual standings, and an 83 from Brogan Townend en route to their first-round 307. UTSA is tied with No. 29 North Carolina and Texas Tech off fifth in the 16-team field.
No. 48 Baylor is the day-one leader after carding a 294, followed by 18th-ranked LSU (301), No. 15 Oklahoma State (305) and 40th-ranked Kansas (306). No. 49 SMU is one shot behind the Roadrunners in eighth (308) and TCU (309) and 16th-ranked Wake Forest (311) round out the top 10.
Round two will get underway with tee times beginning at 8 a.m. on Saturday.
