UTSA to open spring season on Sunday at Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate

SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will open up its spring season when it travels to New Orleans, La., to compete in the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate. The three-day tournament is slated to tee off on Sunday at English Turn Golf & Country Club (par 72/6,140 yards).

The Roadrunners will compete against a loaded field that includes four top-10 teams — No. 1 USC, No. 2 UCLA, No. 4 Washington and No. 9 Alabama — nine additional top-50 programs in No. 11 Clemson, No. 12 Oklahoma State, No. 18 Florida, No. 23 LSU, No. 24 Auburn, No. 31 Tulane, No. 34 Mississippi State, No. 44 Denver and No. 47 Georgia, along with Baylor, Mississippi and Texas.

The 54-hole event begins with tee times at 9 a.m. on Sunday and Monday, followed by an 8 a.m. shotgun start on Tuesday.

UTSA finished 17th at last year’s event carding a 614 (298-316). Paola Valerio led the team by tying for 45th with a 77-75—152, while Brogan Townend tied for 51st (74-79—153).

The Roadrunners last played at The Alamo Invitational on Oct. 27-29, where they tied for fifth (860), behind Taylor Newlin’s seventh-place showing (69-70-74—213).
