Arriaga climbs into top 10 after 36 holes of Dallas Athletic Club/SMU Invitational
DALLAS — Fabiola Arriaga carded three birdies on Saturday to climb into a tie for ninth place with a two-day total of 151 (75-76) at this weekend's Dallas Athletic Club/SMU Invitational.
The Torreon, Mexico, native opened the second round with birdies on the first two holes and added another on No. 7. She twice dipped her score to two-under and finished the front nine at one-under-par before shooting five-over on the back.
Brogan Townend matched Arriaga’s effort with a 76 of her own to jump to a tie for 14th at 152 (76-76). The freshman shot four-over on the front nine but rebounded with birdies on Nos. 10 and 13 to shoot par over the final nine holes.
Meanwhile, Paola Valerio and Taylor Newlin each fired rounds of 78.
Valerio notched a pair of birdies to move into a 20th-place tie at 154 (77-78), while Newlin carded three birdies to tie for 24th with a 155 (77-78).
Allie Johnston rounded out the lineup with a 164 (82-82) to tie for 54th.
No. 50 UTSA held its fifth-place standing with a 612 (304-308), which is one shot ahead of Kansas State (294-319─613) and six strokes behind 46th-ranked Ohio State (299-307─606). No. 19 Oklahoma State leads the field with a 600 (305-295) and the team is paced by Julie Yang, who leads all players with a 138 (70-68).
The event will conclude on Sunday morning with an 8:30 a.m shotgun start.
