Roadrunners finish in ninth-place tie at Insperity Lady Jaguar Intercollegiate
AUGUSTA, Ga. — No. 48 UTSA closed out this weekend's Insperity Lady Jaguar Intercollegiate on Sunday with a 298 and the Roadrunners finished in a ninth-place tie with 34th-ranked Kentucky at 921 (314-309-298).
UTSA, which shaved 11 strokes off of its second-round score, finished one shot behind East Tennessee State and five shots ahead of former Southland Conference foe Lamar.
Taylor Newlin led the way in the final round with a one-under-par 71 to jump to a tie for 34th with a three-day total of 130 (83-76-71). The Frisco native was at two-over-par through 13 before recording birdies on three of her last five holes.
Paola Valerio also finished with a 130 (78-76-76) following a final-round 76. Her day was highlighted by birdies on Nos. 7, 17 and 18.
Meanwhile, Fabiola Arriaga tied for 38th with a 131 (78-77-76) and Chelsea Bretcher tied for 50th at 236 (78-83-75). Brogan Townend rounded out UTSA's scoring with a 242 (80-80-82) to tie for 69th.
No. 16 Purdue shot a 290 during the final 18 holes to jump past ninth-ranked Vanderbilt for the team title. The Boilermakers finished with an 876 (295-291-290) to win the event by one stroke. Notre Dame’s Ashley Armstrong took the individual crown with a one-under-par 215 (76-69-70).
The Roadrunners will be back in action on Wednesday, March 27, in College Station when they will play 36 holes against No. 23 Texas A&M.
