No. 43 UTSA concludes play at Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate on Tuesday
NEW ORLEANS, La. — No. 43 UTSA shot a 316 and it finished in 17th place with a 614 (298-316) at this week's Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate, which concluded on Tuesday at English Turn Golf & Country Club (par 72/6,105 yards).
The Roadrunners finished three strokes ahead of No. 35 Auburn and just one shot behind Colorado and Tulsa at the two-day event that was shortened to just two rounds because of inclement weather on Monday.
Paola Valerio led all UTSA players with a 152 (77-75) to tie for 45th place. Brogan Townend followed her first round of 74 with a 79 to finish one stroke back and in a tie for 51st, while Taylor Newlin tied for 60th with a 154 (70-84). Fabiola Arriaga tied for 74th with a 157 (78-79) and Chelsea Bretcher rounded out the lineup with a 160 (77-83) to tie for 85th.
No. 1 USC took the team title for the second time in three seasons thanks to a playoff victory against No. 25 UCLA. Both squads finished the tournament with a 580.
Meanwhile, Baylor’s Hayley Davis took the individual title with a four-under-par 140 (72-68).
The Roadrunners will return to action on March 15 at the Insperity Lady Jaguars Intercollegiate. The three-day tournament will be played at Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta, Ga.
