UTSA to open play at NCAA Central Regional on Thursday

SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will make its second postseason appearance in as many years when it opens play at the NCAA Central Regional on Thursday. The three-day tournament will be played on the Scarlet Course at The Ohio State University Golf Club (par 72/6,264 yards).

Where: The Ohio State University Golf Club - Scarlet Course (par 72/6,264 yards) — Columbus, Ohio

When: Thursday, May 10 — Saturday, May 12

Format: Three-day event with tee times for each round.

Teams (by order of seed): Southern California, Auburn, Georgia, Vanderbilt, Tennessee, Ohio State, Oregon, North Carolina State, Virginia, Florida State, Purdue, Arkansas, Mississippi, Kentucky, Texas State, South Florida, Notre Dame, UTSA, East Carolina, Michigan, UNC Wilmington, Harvard, Butler, Siena.

· The Roadrunners have won a school-record four tournaments this season (The Alamo Invitational/Islanders Classic/Insperity Lady Jaguar Intercollegiate/Southland Conference Championship)

· Shot a season-low 71 three times
· Two-time second-team All-Southland selection

Shannon Jungman (Sr. - Pflugerville, Texas)
· First-team All-Southland Conference
· First collegiate win came at the 2012 Southland Championship, where she led from start to finish
· Second on the team with a career-best 75.44 stroke average
· Four top five finishes this season
· Set career marks for single round (69) and 54-hole score (73-69-74-216) at The Alamo Invitational (Oct. 30-Nov. 1)
· Tied for fifth at the 2011 Alamo Invitational and 2011 Southland Championship
· Has appeared in more tournaments (35) than any other current UTSA player

Taylor Newlin (So. - Frisco, Texas)
· 2011 and 2012 second-team All-Southland Conference
· Tied for ninth at the 2012 Southland Championship
· Third on the squad with a 76.60 stroke average
· Tied with teammate Summer Batiste for the top spot at the Islanders Classic (Feb. 27-28)
· Recorded an eagle in the first round of the Insperity Lady Jaguar Intercollegiate (March 16-18)
· Shot a season-low 54-hole score of 220 twice
· Finished fourth at the 2011 Southland Championship
· Shot a career-best 69 at the 2010 Mercedes-Benz Women's Championship

Paola Valerio (Jr. - Mexico City, Mexico)

· Tied for 18th at the Southland Championship
· Third on the team with a 76.67 stroke average

· 2010-11 Southland Conference Women's Player of the Year
