AUGUSTA, Ga. — UTSA fired an opening-round 298 on Friday and the Roadrunners sit atop the team leaderboard at the Insperity Lady Jaguar Intercollegiate, which is being played at Forest Hills Country Club.
Senior Shannon Jungman led the way with a 73, which has the Pflugerville native in a tie for third place. She started her round by shooting two-over-par on the front nine before a pair of birdies and a one-under score on the back nine.
Senior Summer Batiste and sophomores Fabiola Arriaga and Taylor Newlin each shot rounds of 75 to tie for 12th. Batiste recorded three birdies, while Newlin's round was highlighted by an eagle on the par five, 535-yard 11th hole and Arriaga's round included birdies on Nos. 9 and 11.
Junior Paola Valerio rounded out the UTSA lineup with a pair of birdies en route to a 78.
UTSA, which is coming off a 40-stroke victory at last month's Islanders Classic, holds a one-shot lead over host Augusta State and No. 31 Purdue, who are tied for second at 299. Meanwhile, Purdue's Kishi Sinha carded a 70 to top the individual ledger.
