SAN ANTONIO — Sophomore Paola Valerio earned second-team Capital One Academic All-District VI honors, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced on Thursday.

A native of Mexico City, Valerio earned the nod with a 3.30 GPA in business. In addition to her accomplishments in the classroom, she was named the Southland Conference Golfer of the Year and was an integral part of the most successful season in program history.

Valerio led the league in stroke average (74.9) heading into the NCAA West Regional and she recorded a total of five top-10 finishes this past season, including a tie for second at the Islanders Classic and a tie for fifth at the Southland Championship. Valerio set a school record and recorded the lowest single round score of any conference golfer with a 66 in the final round of October's Mercedes Benz Championship.

UTSA earned its first-ever Southland Championship with a nine-stroke victory against Lamar in April and the campaign concluded two weeks later when Valerio finished 63rd and led the No. 19-seeded Roadrunners to a 16th-place finish at the NCAA West Regional in Auburn, Wash.
