AUBURN, Wash. — UTSA recorded a 313 on Friday at the NCAA West Regional and the Roadrunners stand in 18th place with a 36-hole score of 624 (311-314).

The field faced rainy conditions in the morning rounds for the second consecutive day and a trio of Roadrunners — sophomore Paola Valerio and freshmen Taylor Newlin and Fabiola Arriaga — each carded 78s to lead the way.

Valerio recorded two more birdies and is tied for 63rd (78-78=156), while Newlin’s pair of birds helped lower her score from the first round by a stroke and she sits in 73rd (79-78=157). Arriaga showed the greatest improvement from the opening 18 holes and knocked in a birdie on No. 8 to jump to a tie for 94th (82-78=160).

Not far behind that group was junior Shannon Jungman, whose lone birdie came on No. 18, which put her at two-over on the front nine. She sits tied for 63rd (77-79=156). Fellow junior Summer Batiste shot a second-day 85 and is tied for 105th (77-85=162).

Top-ranked USC continues to lead after turning in a 284, the low round of the tournament, for a 572 (288-284). Meanwhile, Tennessee’s Erica Popson has a four-stroke lead in the individual standings with a 137 (68-69).

The final round will be played on Saturday.
