Roadrunners to face strong field at Baylor Invitational

SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA women’s golf team will face some of the top teams from the Big 12 Conference and the region at the Baylor Invitational, which begins on Monday. The two-day event will be the squad's final tune-up before the Southland Conference Championship (April 18-20). The 18-team field will open with 36 holes and the tournament concludes on Tuesday.

Where: Twin Rivers Golf Club (6,394 yards/par 72) – Waco, Texas

When: Monday, April 11 – Tuesday, April 12

Format: Two-day event with shotgun start for Monday's first two rounds and tee times for Tuesday’s final 18 holes

Teams: #50 Augusta State, Baylor, Kansas, McLennan JC, Missouri, Missouri State, Nebraska, North Texas, #28 Oklahoma, Oklahoma City, Oral Roberts, SMU, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Texas State, Texas Tech, UAB, UALR, UTSA.

Fabiola Arriaga (Fr. – Torreon, Mexico)
· Tied for 13th at the Administaff Lady Jaguar Intercollegiate, March 13-14
· Second on the squad with a 75.87 stroke average
· Finished in the top 15 in her last two tournaments
· Low round of the season was a 71 at the UCF Challenge, Feb. 13-15
· Recorded a 74 in her first collegiate round

Summer Batiste (Jr. – Austin, Texas)
· Best finish of the year was tied for 13th at the Alamo Invitational, Oct. 31-Nov. 2
· Fourth on the team with a 76.33 stroke average
· Has recorded three eagles this season
· 2009-10 second-team All-Southland

Shannon Jungman (Jr. – Pflugerville, Texas)
· Will be making her sixth appearance of the season
· Tied for 16th at the Administaff Lady Jaguar Intercollegiate, March 13-14
· Fifth on the squad with a 78.18  stroke average
· Shot a career-best 72 in the first round of the Alamo Invitational and again in the third round of the Administaff Lady Jaguar Intercollegiate

Taylor Newlin (Fr. – Frisco, Texas)
· Finished tied for fourth in her first collegiate tournament, the Chip-N Club Invitational, Sept. 13-14
· Third on the team with a 76.09 stroke average
· Shot a 69 at the Mercedes-Benz Women's Championship, Oct. 8-10
· Finished in the top 15 three times this season

Paola Valerio (So. – Mexico City, Mexico)
· Set school records with a 66 and 54-hole score of 212 to finish fifth at the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championships, Oct. 8-10.
· Two-time Southland Conference Golfer of the Month (October 2010/February 2011)
· Leads the team with a 74.61 stroke average
· Recorded an ace at the BYU Entrada Classic, March 21-22
· Finished in the top-10 four times this year and tied for second at the Islander Classic, Feb. 28-March 1
· 2010 first-team All-Southland Conference
