SAN ANTONIO — Sophomore Paola Valerio shot a 72 at Sunday's one-day qualifier for the LPGA Futures Tour to earn a spot in the Symetra Classic, which is scheduled to be played from April 25-May 1 at the Dominion Country Club in San Antonio.

Valerio will compete as an amateur during the seven-day event, which will bring together 144 amateurs and professionals from around the world.

The LPGA Futures Tour is in its 31st year and has been the LPGA’s developmental tour since July 2007. Former tour members include Vicky Hurst, Cristie Kerr, Christina Kim, Song-Hee Kim, Stacy Lewis, Kristy McPherson, Lorena Ochoa, Inbee Park, Angela Stanford and Karrie Webb,

Freshmen Fabiola Arriaga and Taylor Newlin just missed the cut after shootin a three-over 75.

UTSA returns to the links next week when it plays at the Baylor Invitational. The two-day tournament gets underway on Monday, April 11.
