CORPUS CHRISTI — Sophomore Paola Valerio fired a final-round 74 on Tuesday en route to her best finish of the spring and she led UTSA to fourth place in the team standings at this week's Islanders Classic.

Playing at the site of this year’s Southland Conference Tournament, Valerio shot two-over-par on the day and completed the two-day tournament with a 220 (73-73-74), which was good for second on the individual leaderboard. It was her fourth top-10 finish of the season and second of the spring.

Freshmen Taylor Newlin (74-75-79=228) and Fabiola Arriaga (79-74-76=229) finished tied for 15th and 20th, respectively. Meanwhile, junior Summer Batiste also tied for 20th after carding a final-round 79 and fellow junior Shannon Jungman was 34th at 234 (79-74-79). Not far behind was junior Bruna Spengler, who tied for 36th with a 235 (82-76-77) to record the best score among those playing as an individual.

Oral Roberts used a final-round 292 to win the tournament by four strokes (312-294-292=889). The Golden Eagles’ Crystal Reeves fired a third-round 71 to edge out Valerio and Central Arkansas’ Julia Roth with a 218 (74-73-71).

UTSA will hit the links again in two weeks at the Administaff Lady Jaguars Intercollegiate in Augusta, Ga. The two-day tournament is scheduled to get underway on March 13.
