IRVING — The trio of Fabiola Arriaga, Taylor Newlin and Brogan Townend was named to the All-Conference USA teams, the league office announced on Wednesday.

Arriaga was one of five players named to the first team in a vote by the circuit’s head coaches and the senior became the first player in program history to garner four first-team all-conference certificates. She captured the C-USA individual title last week by tying the league record with a nine-under-par 207 (68-69-70). Arriaga established school records for low 36- (137) and 54-hole (207) totals in posting her second career outright win by four strokes. The Torreon, Mexico, native leads the Roadrunners with a 73.32 stroke average and she has registered two consecutive top-10 finishes and five top-20 showings this season.

Arriaga also earned first-team All-Southland Conference accolades as a freshman, when she also was named Southland Freshman of the Year, and sophomore, when she was the Southland Player of the Year, and she was a first-team All-Western Athletic Conference choice in 2013. She will compete as an individual at the NCAA West Regional on May 8-10 in Cle Elum, Wash., her fourth straight NCAA appearance.

Newlin and Townend were two of five league players named to the league's third team.

Newlin collected her fourth all-conference nod after earning second-team accolades in each of the past three seasons. The senior ranks second on the squad with a 74.48 stroke average and she registered three top-10 finishes during her final campaign. Newlin tied for seventh with a 217 (73-72-72) at last week’s C-USA Championship. The Frisco Wakeland High School product set a then-school record for low 36-hole total with a 139 (69-70) en route to a seventh-place finish (213) at The Alamo Invitational last fall. Newlin also turned in an eighth-place effort at the LSU Tigers Classic after carding a 221 (79-71-71).

Townend picked up her first career all-conference selection after ranking third on the team with a 74.76 stroke average. The Blackburn, England, native recorded four top-20 finishes during her sophomore season, including a 13th-place showing at The Alamo Invitational with a career-low 214 (74-67-73). Townend’s 67 in the second round of that event ranks as the second-lowest score in UTSA annals. She finished 16th with a 220 (73-75-72) at the C-USA Championship last week.

UTSA’s three all-conference selections ranked second among league schools, as Tulane had a league-high five picks, including Golfer of the Year Emily Penttila. The Roadrunners have earned 23 all-conference honors in the program’s nine-year history, including 18 overall and nine first-team accolades under sixth-year head coach Carrie Parnaby.
