Newlin named to Conference USA All-Academic Team
IRVING — UTSA senior Taylor Newlin was to Conference USA's All-Academic Team, the league office announced on Thursday.
Newlin boasts a 3.52 cumulative GPA as a double major in accounting and marketing and she has been accepted into the UTSA MACY (Master of Accountancy) Program where she also will earn a master’s degree in accounting.
The Frisco native is a two-time member of the UTSA Dean’s List (3.75 or higher semester GPA) and a three-time UTSA Honor Roll (3.50 GPA) honoree. She was named to the 2013 Women’s Golf Coaches Association’s All-American Scholar Team and was a 2013 Western Athletic Conference (WAC) All-Academic Team pick and a two-time Southland Conference Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll selection.
On the course, Newlin is a three-time second-team all-conference performer, including last year in the Roadrunners’ first and only season in the WAC. This season, she has registered a 74.77 stroke average, which ranks second on the team. She ranks 35th in the NCAA in total short game (.563) and has recorded 44 birdies.
Newlin broke the school record for low 36-hole total with a 139 (69-70) en route to a career-best 3-under-par 213 in finishing seventh at The Alamo Invitational last fall. Her performance helped UTSA establish a program record with a 4-under 860. She posted her second top-10 finish of the season with an eighth-place score of 221 (79-71-71) at the LSU Tiger Classic in March.
