Roadrunners move into 12th place after second round of SunTrust Gator Invitational
GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Led by a 73 from Fabiola Arriaga, the UTSA women's golf team moved into 12th place after the second round of the SunTrust Gator Invitational, which was held Saturday at Mark Bostick Golf Course (par 70/6,002 yards).
Arriaga carded her second straight 73 on the strength of four birdies and the senior from Torreon, Mexico, is in tie for 21st at six-over-par 146 with 18 holes remaining.
Taylor Newlin followed her team-best 72 on Friday with a 74 and the senior from Frisco is also in a tie for 21st in the 81-player field.
UTSA also received a 76 from both Aimee Ponte and Chelsea Bretcher on Saturday. Ponte is tied for 76th (162) and Bretcher is 80th (165), while Brogan Townend is in a tie for 59th (78-77—155).
The Roadrunners moved out of a tie for 13th and into 12th place after recording a 299, a 10-shot improvement from the first round. Their 36-hole total of 608 is three shots ahead of Old Dominion (611) and just one behind Furman (607).
No. 37 Kent State holds the lead at 15-over 575 (296-279), followed by No. 30 Ohio State (580), No. 12 Arizona (581), No. 32 Texas A&M (581) and No. 29 Virginia (581).
Texas A&M's Marijosse Navarro is the individual leader at even-par 140 (71-69).
The final round is scheduled for an 8 a.m. (CT) shotgun start on Sunday.
