SAN ANTONIO — Behind a career-best five-under-par 67 from Brogan Townend, UTSA remained in fifth place after the second day of The Alamo Invitational, which continued on Monday at Briggs Ranch Golf Club (par 72/6,428 yards).

Townend fired a three-under 33 on the front nine on the strength of three birdies and the sophomore from Blackburn, England, added a pair on the back side en route to recording the program's best round in the five-year history of the tournament. Townend, who shot a 74 on Sunday, moved into a tie for eighth place at three-under 141 with 18 holes remaining and her 67 bettered her previous career low of 68 posted in the second round of the 2012 The Alamo Invitational.

Taylor Newlin continued her strong play, as the senior from Frisco followed yesterday's 69 with a two-under 70 in the second round. She is in a tie for fourth place at five-under 139, three shots off the pace set by LSU's Lindsay Gahm, who has carded back-to-back 68s and sits at eight-under 136.

Fabiola Arriaga is one shot behind Townend in a tie for 14th after posting a 142 (68-74) in the opening two rounds. Aimee Ponte provided the other second-round score for the Roadrunners, a three-over 75, and the freshman is tied for 54th at 149 (74-75).

UTSA turned in a two-under 286 and is in fifth at five-under 571, four shots behind Texas A&M (281-286—567) and one stroke in front of No. 17 Florida (280-292—572). No. 7 Arkansas leads the 15-team field at 14-under 562 (279-283). Fifth-ranked and defending champion Oklahoma is tied with No. 25 LSU for second at 12-under 564. TCU (574), SMU (578), No. 18 Tulane (581) and Texas State (584) round out the top 10.

The final round is slated for an 8:45 a.m. shotgun start on Tuesday.
