Aimee Ponte signs National Letter of Intent with women's golf program
SAN ANTONIO — Head women’s golf coach Carrie Parnaby announced Tuesday that Aimee Ponte (Guernsey, United Kingdom/St. Sampson’s HS) has signed a National Letter of Intent to join her program. Ponte and fellow signee Libby Thomas will join the Roadrunners for the upcoming 2013-14 season.
"We are excited for Aimee to join our Roadrunners family,” Parnaby said. “She has a great personality and way about her that I am excited to have as part of our team. Her attitude and enthusiasm is infectious. Aimee has played a great deal of golf all over the world and she loves to compete. She is playing a full schedule of events this summer, which will prepare her well for our competitive schedule."
Ponte comes to UTSA with a wealth of international experience and a plethora of championships around the U.K.
In her native Guernsey, she earned Island Championships in 2009 before a run of three consecutive titles from 2011-13. Ponte also claimed four consecutive Guernsey Girls Club crowns from 2009-12. She also took home Channel Island titles in 2011 and '12 to go along with the 2012 Hampshire Girls Championship.
Ponte also was a semifinalist in the Hants County Championship in 2011-12, tied for eighth at the Helen Holm this past year, finished 15th at the English Girls Championship and reached the final 32 at the British Girls Championship in 2012. In 2012, Ponte also represented Hampshire in County Match Week.
UTSA is coming off its third consecutive NCAA Regional appearance and will compete as a member of Conference USA beginning this fall.
