Valerio leads UTSA on second day of NCAA Central Regional
NORMAN, Okla. — Paola Valerio shot even par on Friday to move up into a tie for 30th place, UTSA carded a 303 as a team and the Roadrunners are in 18th place after 36 holes of play at this weekend's NCAA Central Regional.
The Torreon, Mexico, native followed a bogey on No. 2 with a birdie on the following hole and carded even par over the final 15 holes for a 72.
Fabiola Arriaga birdied No. 5 and shot three-over-par on the front nine before finishing the round with nine consecutive pars. After an opening-round 74, the junior’s 75 brought her two-day total to 149 and a tie for 39th place.
Meanwhile, Taylor Newlin is tied for 82nd with a 154 (74-80) and Brogan Townend sits in 97th at 156 (78-78). Allie Johnston rounds out the UTSA lineup with a 160 (82-78) to tie for 115th. The Castle Rock, Colo., native fired three birdies on Friday to trim four strokes off her first-round total.
UTSA owns a 605 (302-303) to lead 11th-seeded Campbell by six strokes and 15th-seeded Gonzaga by seven. Tournament host Oklahoma leads the field with a seven-under-par 569 (283-286) and the Sooners boast the event’s top individual, Emily Collins, who leads the field with a 137 (67-70).
The tournament concludes on Saturday with tee times beginning at 7:30 a.m. UTSA will tee off at No. 10 beginning at noon.
