No. 41 UTSA in eighth place after first two rounds of Florida State Match-Up
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Brogan Townend led the 41st-ranked UTSA women's golf team with a 74 on Saturday and the Roadrunners are in eighth place following the first two rounds of this weekend's Florida State Match-Up, which is being played at at Southwood Golf Club (par 72/7,172 yards).
The freshman from Blackburn, England, collected birdies on hole Nos. 4, 7 and 16 en route to her two-over-par, which was a four-shot improvement from her opening 18 holes, and she will enter Sunday's final round in a tie for 26th place on the individual leaderboard.
Meanwhile, Chelsea Bretcher made a six-stroke turnaround from the first round by shooting a 76, which also was aided by a trifecta of birdies.
Taylor Newlin (79), Fabiola Arriaga (80) and Paola Valerio (81) rounded out the team's scorers. Newlin (73-79=152) and Valerio (71-81=152) are tied with Townend in 26th place.
The Roadrunners, who entered the day in seventh place (299), dropped a spot in the team standings following their second-round 309. No. 6 Oklahoma took over the team lead with a four-under-par on Saturday and the Sooners (298-284=582) will carry a six-stroke advantage over tournament host Florida State into the final round. No. 16 Georgia (290-300=590) and 33rd-ranked Tennessee (291-299=590) round out the top three.
Georgia's Rocio Sanchez Lobato and Furman's Laura Wearn are tied for the individual lead at four-under 140.
The final round tees off on Sunday morning.
