UTSA to host NCAA Regionals in 2014, 2015
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — UTSA will host the 2014 NCAA Division I Men's Golf San Antonio Regional and the 2015 NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Central Regional at Briggs Ranch Golf Club, the NCAA Men’s and Women’s Golf Committees announced on Thursday.
The men’s tournament is scheduled to be played from May 15-17, 2014, while the women’s event is slated for May 7-9, 2015.
“We’re very excited and proud to have the opportunity to host these NCAA Championship events,” UTSA Athletics Director Lynn Hickey said. “Time and again, the city of San Antonio has done a tremendous job as an NCAA host city and I have no doubt that the same will hold true for these tournaments. Briggs Ranch is an outstanding venue and will provide a great experience for the competing student-athletes. We look forward to watching some of the nation’s best collegiate golfers in 2014 and 2015.”
This will mark the second and third NCAA Regionals that UTSA will have hosted and the first since the 1998 NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Central Regional, which was played at Oak Hills Country Club. It also will be the 15th and 16th NCAA Championship events UTSA will have hosted since 1997.
Designed by Tom Fazio, Briggs Ranch Golf Club opened in 2001 and it annually is rated by Golfweek as one of the top residential courses in the nation. The course recently hosted the 2012 U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur and has been a sectional qualifying site for the U.S. Junior Amateur and U.S. Senior Amateur.
