SAN ANTONIO — UTSA tied a school record with a 283 on Monday and the Roadrunners moved into third place in the team standings at The Alamo Invitational, which is being contested at Briggs Ranch Golf Club.

The Roadrunners, who have carded 573 (290-283) through the first two rounds of play, posted the second-best round of the day, which was just one shot behind No. 25 Texas A&M’s 282. No. 9 Oklahoma continues to lead the field with a 563 (279-284), while the Aggies (289-282─571), UTSA, No. 31 SMU (286-292─578), No. 20 Baylor (291-292─583) and No. 43 Tulane (287-296─583) round out the top five.

Junior Fabiola Arriaga and freshman Brogan Townend led the way.

Arriaga opened her day with a bogey, but she rebounded to shoot par or a birdie the rest of the way. The Torreon, Mexico, native got back to even par with a birdie on No. 7, before birds on Nos. 12, 15 and 17 gave her a three-under-par 69, which moved her into a tie for seventh place in the individual ledger with a 141 (72-69).

Meanwhile, Townend fired three birdies on the front nine and another on the back side en route to a career-best round of 68. The Blackburn, England, native did shot par or better on every hole and jumped to a tie for 13th with a two-round total of 143 (75-68).

Not far behind was senior Paola Valerio, who started her round with four birdies in the first six holes. The Mexico City native went out at three-under-par, but she was four-over on the back nine, which gave her a two-day total of 144 (73-71).

Junior Taylor Newlin fired a one-over-par 73 to move to a tie for 20th place with a 145 (72-73), while classmate Chelsea Bretcher carded her second round of 76 to tie for 45th at 152 (76-76).

Meanwhile, freshman Allie Johnston, who is playing as an individual, shot a 77 and is in 73rd place with a 161 (84-77).

Tuesday’s final round will commence with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
