Valerio leads UTSA on Saturday at Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championships
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Senior Paola Valerio shot even par for the second consecutive day to lead UTSA on Saturday at the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championships, which is being played at Holston Hills Country Club (par 72/6,447 yards).
The Mexico City native fired a pair of birdies on the front nine (Nos. 4, 7), which offset two bogeys (Nos. 3, 9), and the same was true on the back side with birds on Nos. 10 and 15 and bogeys on Nos. 11 and 12. Valerio has a two-day scorecard of 144 and she now is in a tie for seventh place through 36 holes of play.
Junior Chelsea Bretcher carded a 75 to move to a tie for 21st with a 148 (73-75), while classmate Fabiola Arriaga shaved a stroke off Friday’s opening-round total and she is tied for 32nd with a 149 (75-74). Fellow junior Taylor Newlin is tied for 36th with a 150 (72-78) and freshman Brogan Townend is tied for 74th at 163 (85-78). Frosh Allie Johnston, who is playing as an individual, fired an 80 and is tied for 65th with a 159 (79-80).
The Roadrunners shot a 299 for the day and will enter Sunday's final round in sixth place in the team standings with a 591 (292-299).
