BROKEN ARROW, Okla. — Junior Fabiola Arriaga carded a one-under-par 71 on Tuesday and she finished in fifth place to lead UTSA at the season-opening Dale McNamara Invitational.

Arriaga entered the day in a five-way tie for seventh with a 144 (71-73) and she carded three more birdies during her final 18 holes, including a pair on Nos. 3 and 4, for a final scorecard of 215. The Torreon, Mexico, native finished the event with eight birdies en route to the seventh top-five finish of her career.

Junior Chelsea Bretcher finished tied for 55th place with a 234 (78-78-78) and senior Paola Valerio fired three birdies on the day to tie for 62nd at 236 (78-79-79). Junior Taylor Newlin also recorded a 236 (84-77-75) by posting UTSA’s second-best round of the day with a 75. Freshman Allie Johnston posted her best round of the tournament, a 76, to finish in a tie for 66th place with a 239 (80-83-76).

The Roadrunners shaved seven strokes off their scores from yesterday for a 54-hole total of 914 (307-307-300), which was good for 12th place and just five strokes outside of the top 10.

No. 4 Arizona State (866=280-292-294) took home the team title with a three-stroke victory over No. 10 Florida, while the Gators’ Isabelle Lendl earned individual medalist honors with a 210 (71-67-72).

UTSA will return to the links on Sept. 25 when it travels to Vail, Colo., for the three-day Golfweek Conference Challenge.
