SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will return to action this weekend at the 47th Annual H-E-B Tournament of Champions in Corpus Christi.
The Roadrunners (5-3) will meet South Alabama at 9 a.m. on Friday in the opening round of the event, which guarantees every team three matches.
Other teams in the field include No. 30 BYU, No. 34 Middle Tennessee, DePaul, Louisiana-Lafayette, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Western Michigan.
UTSA has won two of its last three contests, including a 5-2 decision at Lipscomb last Saturday. Tyler Brown netted a three-set victory against the Bisons and improved his No. 3 singles record to a team-best 6-2 this spring.
Meanwhile, Martin Ayala and Diogo Casa are off to a perfect 8-0 start at the top doubles spot. The duo has won its last five matches by at least four games.
South Alabama (3-5) put an end to a three-match losing streak last Sunday with a 4-2 victory against No. 60 Georgia State. Alex Bernard and Daniel Leitner both are 6-3 in singles action to pace the Jaguars, while Bernard and Shayann Vaezzadeh have teamed up to win three doubles tilts.
UTSA will face either Middle Tennessee or DePaul in the tournament's second round at 4 p.m. on Friday and the final round will take place on Saturday.
