INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — UTSA learned its NCAA Championships opponent and desitination on Tuesday evening and the Southland Conference Champion Roadrunners will take on No. 14 California in the first round. The two teams will square off at 2 p.m. (CT) on Saturday, May 12, at the Hellman Tennis Complex in Berekley, Calif
Led by second-year head coach Jeff Kader, UTSA (13-10) earned the Southland's automatic bid after becoming the lowest seed (No. 4) to ever win the league tournament last weekend. The Roadrunners ousted regular season champion Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in last Friday's semifinals before knocking off second-seeded Nicholls the following day to capture the third Southland Tournament title in program history.
Meanwhile, the Golden Bears (12-11) advanced to the national tournament for the 13th consecutive season by earning an at-large bid in the 64-team field. Cal lost to UCLA in the Pac-12 semifinals last Friday and it has dropped four of its last five matches.
The winner will advance to face either Texas Tech (15-8) or Cal Poly (15-7) in the second round at 3 p.m. (CT) on Sunday, May 13.
