SAN ANTONIO — UTSA and I-37 rival Texas A&M-Corpus Christi will meet at 2 p.m. on Thursday with the winner earning the right to call itself the 2011 Southland Conference Regular Season Champion.
The Roadrunners are 9-7 overall this spring, but they boast a perfect 3-0 ledger in league play with victories against Lamar, Nicholls and UT Arlington.
Sophomore Tyler Brown leads UTSA with a 12-4 singles record and he has won nine of his last 10 matches. Three-time Southland Player of the Week Martin Ayala is second on the squad with 11 victories, all of which have come at the top spot in the singles lineup. Meanwhile, senior Daniel Moreiras has teamed up with Ayala for eight wins at No. 1 doubles.
The 74th-ranked Islanders (12-9, 4-0 SLC) come into the contest riding a three-match winning streak. A&M-Corpus Christi has won 20 of its last 21 Southland regular season matches and it has won or shared the league's last three regular season titles.
