FRISCO — Sophomore Tyler Brown was named Southland Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday. It marked the fourth weekly honor for a Roadrunner this spring.
Brown pushed his singles winning streak to eight matches last weekend and helped lead UTSA (9-5) to a perfect 3-0 weekend in Portland, Ore. The New Braunfels native won all of his contests over the weekend in straight sets.
He opened with a 6-2, 6-0 victory against Seattle's Matt Overland. Brown then shut out Montana's Cody Kohlmoos (6-0, 6-0) and finished off the spotless three-day stretch with a 6-4, 6-3 win against Portland's Bryan Thorp on Sunday. He also teamed up freshman Yannick Junger for a pair of doubles triumphs.
Brown now is tied for the team lead with an 11-3 mark in singles action, with eight of his victories coming in straight sets.
The Roadrunners (9-5) return to action on Thursday at third-ranked Texas (11-3).
