SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA men's tennis team will begin a seven-match road trip this weekend. The Roadrunners will take on No. 64 SMU on Saturday and UT Arlington the next day during their weekend trip to the Metroplex. First serve against the Mustangs is scheduled for noon, while Sunday's contest is slated for 11 a.m.
UTSA (5-4, 2-0 SLC) is riding a three-game winning streak after taking a pair of Southland Conference home matches from Lamar and Nicholls last weekend.
Sophomore Martin Ayala, who has been named Southland Player of the Week three times this spring, leads the Roadrunners with a 7-2 record in singles competition, while sophomore Tyler Brown and freshman Yannick Junger have recorded 6-3 marks. Senior Max Stratmann and freshman Kolby Kilgo have recorded a perfect 4-0 ledger to lead the Roadrunnners' doubles contingent.
The Mustangs (3-4) are led by Artem Baradach, the nation's 65th-ranked singles player, who owns a 6-1 mark this spring. SMU has split its last two outings, sweeping Utah State on Feb. 24 before falling to then-No. 4 Texas, 6-1, two days later.
UT Arlington (3-3) is opening its league schedule against UTSA. The Mavericks have dropped two of their last three matches, including a 6-1 decision at then-No. 14 Texas A&M last Sunday. Yauheni Yakauleu has recorded a 3-3 record in singles play, including a perfect 2-0 mark at the No. 1 position to lead UT Arlington. Brieuc Hamon and Lucas Leppen are 2-1 in doubles action.
