Roadrunners to hit road this weekend for trio of matches
SAN ANTONIO — Winners of five of its last seven matches, UTSA will hit the road this weekend for a trio of matches.
The Roadrunners (8-11) will open the road trip with a match against former Southland Conference foe Lamar (10-8) at 10 a.m. (please not time change due to forecasted rain) on Thursday at the Thompson Family Tennis Center. UTSA won the last meeting, 6-1, on Feb. 17, 2013, in San Antonio.
UTSA then will head further east down IH-10 the following day to face No. 66 Louisiana-Lafayette (14-4) at 3 p.m. at Cajun Courts. The Roadrunners and the Ragin' Cajuns met twice last season with Lousiaina posting a 4-1 victory on March 2 in Corpus Christi and the Birds getting revenge with a 4-3 home win on April 1.
The Roadrunners will conclude the road trip with their second meeting of the season with 63rd-ranked Tulane (11-6) at 1 p.m. on Sunday at City Park Pepsi Tennis Center. The Green Wave scored a 4-1 triumph in the first matchup this season in the opening round of the H-E-B Tournament of Champions on Feb. 28 in Corpus Christi.
UTSA is coming off a pair of home victories last Saturday against Texas-Pan American (6-1) and NCAA Division II No. 29 St. Mary's (7-0) after dropping a 6-1 decision to then-63rd-ranked Wichita State on Friday.
Yannick Junger led the way with with wins in all three of his singles and doubles matches and the junior from Germany was tabbed Conference USA Tennis Athlete of the Week on Tuesday for his performance.
