SAN ANTONIO — UTSA looks to build upon back-to-back victories when it travels to No. 72 Rice at Wednesday. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Jake Hess Tennis Stadium.
The Roadrunners (10-8) have netted back-to-back wins at UT Arlington and against Louisiana-Lafayette.
The Birds held off the Ragin' Cajuns for a 4-3 victory on Monday. Joel Rubio registered the clinching point in singles play for the second consecutive match.
Rubio, Martin Ayala and David Kelleher all have won their last two singles tilts, while Kelleher and Diogo Casa lead UTSA with identical 11-6 marks.
Meanwhile, the duo of Ayala and Casa continued their strong season on Monday with its 13th win at No. 1 doubles.
The Owls (8-11) have lost three straight outings, including a 5-0 setback at 11th-ranked Oklahoma last Sunday.
Tommy Bennett and Adam Gustafsson each have netted 10 victories in singles competition, while the pairing of Leif Berger and Phillip Seifert own a 7-4 record at No. 3 doubles this spring.
The Roadrunners knocked off Rice in the last meeting between the two program, a 4-3 decision on Feb. 11, 2012, in Houston.
