SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will play a pair of matches in the next four days, including opening Western Athletic Conference (WAC) at UT Arlington at 11 a.m. on Saturday. The Roadrunners also will host Louisiana-Lafayette at 2:30 p.m. two days later.
UTSA (8-8) has lost five of its last seven outings, including a 4-3 setback to Abilene Christian last Sunday. The Birds won the doubles point, but the Wildcats stormed back to win four of the six singles matchups to clinch the match.
Diogo Casa and Tyler Brown each have won their last two singles contests. Casa owns a team-best 10-5 mark in singles play, while Brown is 8-8. Casa and Martin Ayala have won their last three tilts and own a 12-2 record at No. 1 doubles.
The Mavericks (6-9, 0-1 WAC) have dropped five of their last six matches, including back-to-back home losses against Columbia and Marquette. UT Arlington lost its WAC opener at New Mexico State, 4-3, on March 2. Carlos Arbiza and Marek Pesicka each have netted seven victories in singles competition to pace the Mavericks, while the duo of Arbiza and Yauheni Yakauleu are 6-4 in doubles play.
Meanwhile, the Ragin' Cajuns (10-9) have lost two of their last three and were swept by No. 29 Baylor last Thursday. Rick de Groot leads Louisiana-Lafayette with an 11-7 mark in singles action, while de Groot and Jake Wynan own a 10-5 record at No. 1 doubles.
