Ayala, Casa advance to main draw at ITA All-American Championships
TULSA, Okla. — Senior Martina Ayala and freshman Diogo Alves Casa advanced through three rounds of qualifying doubles competition to be included in Thursday's main draw at the ITA All-American Championships.
Ayala and Casa knocked Penn State's Russell Bader and Roman Trkulja, who make up the nation's 28th-ranked doubles team, 8-4, in the second round. The pairing continued to roll with an 8-5 victory against Wichita State's Alvaro Gutierrez and Matheus Pereira before topping George Washington's Francisco Dias and Alex van Gils, 9-7, in the fourth round.
They now will match up with Tennessee's Mikelis Libietis and Jarryd Chaplin, the country's 17th-ranked doubles tandem, at 6 p.m. on Thursday.
Meanwhile, four UTSA players will compete at this weekend's Lamar Cardinals Classic in Beaumont.
Senior Hugo Guanais, junior Kolby Kilgo and freshmen Eric Buchalter and Boburjon Kamiljanov will represent the Roadrunners in both singles and doubles competition at the three-day tournament that begins on Friday.
