Alley leads Roadrunners on first day of Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate

LAS CRUCES, N.M. — Bryce Alley is in a tie for 40th place at eight-over par and UTSA is in 16th in the team standings after the first day of the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate, which began on Monday at New Mexico State University Golf Course (par 71/7,074 yards).

Alley opened the 54-hole tournament with an even-par 71 and the freshman from Longview carded a 79 in the second round. He is one of 11 players at eight-over 150.

A trio of Roadrunners sits two shots behind Alley in a tie for 59th at 10-over 152. Brett Hogan and Ryan Werre each fired a pair of 76s, while J.J. Lindsey turned in a 73 and a 79. Garrison Lackey is tied for 73rd after recording a 78-77—155.

As a team, UTSA registered a 604 (296-308) and is two shots behind UMKC and four back of Nebraska and Texas State, who are tied for 13th at 600. New Mexico State leads the field after posting a four-over 572 (283-289), followed by UTEP (574), Colorado State (575), Northern Colorado (581) and Air Force (587). Ben Krueger is the 36-hole individual leader after turning in a three-under 139 (70-69).

The final round is slated for a 9 a.m. (CT) shotgun start.
