Lackey leads UTSA to 10th-place tie at Jerry Pate Intercollegiate

VESTAVIA HILLS, Ala. — Led by a seven-over-par 217 from Garrison Lackey, UTSA tied for 10th place at the Jerry Pate Intercollegiate, which concluded on Tuesday at Old Overton Country Club (par 70/7,204 yards).

Lackey carded a two-over 72 in Tuesday’s final round, matching his opening-round score from Monday, and finished in a tie for 27th place. The junior from Weslaco wrote down seven birdies during the three rounds en route to his best finish since a fifth-place tie at April's Western Athletic Conference Championship.  

Brett Hogan also shot a 72 in the final round after recording four consecutive birdies on holes six through nine on his way to a 32 on the front. The sophomore from Calgary tied for 36th with a 220 (75-73-72).

Behind Lackey and Hogan, the Roadrunners turned in a three-round total of 883 (295-294-294) to tie No. 50 Mississippi State for 10th place in the field of 12 that included nine top-50 teams, eight of which entered the event ranked in the top 30. UTSA and the Bulldogs finished just two shots back of 20th-ranked UNLV (881) and 19 strokes ahead of Arizona (902).

No. 4 Alabama successfully defended its team title by firing an 11-under 829 (274-278-277), followed by second-ranked Texas A&M (845), No. 10 UAB (846), No. 27 Texas (852), 26th-ranked Auburn (857), No. 29 Arkansas (858), 19th-ranked Vanderbilt (861) and Charlotte (866).

Ryan Werre shot a four-over 74 in the final round and finished tied for 44th at 223 (74-75-74). J.J. Lindsey carded a 225 (75-74-76) to tie for 49th and Bryce Alley finished 57th after recording a 229 (74-74-81).

UAB’s Wilson McDonald topped all individuals with an eight-under 202 (65-67-70).

UTSA will return to the course when in two weeks at the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate.
